This work analyses the relationship among the agglomeration inter-industries, intra-industry and inter-regional and the labour demand by the firms, in Portugal, being waited, that there is more labour demand where the agglomeration is larger. For that, this study was structured in five parts. In the first part it is made an abbreviation introduction, where some theoretical contributions are referred, related with the areas of the agglomeration that are usually associated to the New Economic Geography; in the second part the used model in the effectuated estimates is presented, where links the relative job of each manufacturing industry in a certain region, with explanatory factors as the transport costs, the linkages “backward and forward” and the agglomeration economies; in the third part the considered statistical data are examined, to the manufacturing industry, tends in bill the disaggregation effectuated for Portugal by the REGIO database of the EUROSTAT, to the 7 national regions (NUTs II)and for a period from 1986 to 1994; in the fourth part are exhibited the estimates obtained with the model described previously; and in the fifth are enunciated the main conclusions obtained with the realization of this work. Of referring, as summary conclusion, that the results are solid with the theoretical developments of the New Economic Geography, in other words, the labour demand is larger where the firms have better conditions for agglomerate that it is where the transport costs are smaller and where has strong linkages “backward and forward” and strong agglomeration economies.
