It is recognized the importance that the airport infra- structure assumes in triggering new territorial dynamics. Among other things, an airport generates a set of positive externalities in terms of job creation (direct, indirect and induced) and location of economic activities. Several stud- ies try to show a positive correlation between this type of infrastructure and economic growth and competitiveness of a region. In this context, the Beja Airport, opened in 2011, is an important reference for the region where it is inserted. However, in addition to special features of this airport, it have been deepened a set of negative concepts that can disrupt the start of operations in the infrastructure. However, the region of Alentejo has several capabilities, including tourism, and they will need for their implemen- tation a nearby airport, on a scale where Beja has competi- tive advantages.
