Abstract

Portugal was traditionally an emigration country. However, in recent decades, the country experienced a new reality of regular, and relatively intense, flows of immigrants. These people came from Brazil, Central and Eastern Europe, and Africa. They have different characteristics and moved to Portugal for numerous reasons. With this study, we propose to identify the characteristics – the profile in terms of gender, age and country of birth – of individuals who have moved to Portugal integrated in the migration process, according to  the  different  characteristics of Portuguese regions. We also intend to verify the existence of similarities, at the immigrants profile, according to their countries of birth.
