One of the most salient aspects of the QREN (2007- 2013) in its immediate period (up to 2017) is the establishment of connections between the terrestrial transport modalities and the airport terminals in mainland Portugal. The New Airport of Lisbon will incorporate from its origin accessibilities such as roads and railways, while other existing airport terminals will improve their connections with terrestrial means of transport to sustain the development based on the on the growing importance of the public transport. This communication aims to present the consolidated experience of some European airport terminals, in which the interface with public transport systems is fundamental. Thus, by considering the “generalized cost”, implicit in the terrestrial nets, we aim to develop an analysis and synthesis of the major cases in Europe to establish the potential of growth of hinterlands in Faro Airport.
