The objective of this paper is to understand the impacts of the University of Huambo in the Economy of the Region. To achieve this we formulate, calibrate and simulate for different scenarios a spatial interaction model for the Huambo City and Province suitable to evaluate the demand effects stimulated by changes in the higher education which is financed by the national government. The results confirm that the isolation of a region have negative effects on economic growth. Being so the impact of a small change in the university employment expected for the period 2004 to 2009, associated with an increase of the basic employment of just 413, results also in stronger external connections which implies a change in the multiplier effect of the basic employment from 1,618 to 1,621 and a change in the income per capita multiplier effect from 5,512 to 5,521.
